From the 2013/14 academic year, loans will be available for learners in Further Education and training aged 24 and above studying at Level 3 and above, including Advanced and Higher Apprenticeships. The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) are publishing monthly briefings to help colleges and training organisations prepare for the introduction of loans. The briefings will be produced jointly with the Skills Funding Agency, the Student Loans Company, and HM Revenue and Customs.

Download the Skills Funding Agency 'Funding Rules 2012/13' (PDF) Following consultation with Providers and employers the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) have produced a single document which sets out the Funding Rules for the 2012/13 funding year.

Effective from 1 August 2012, the document puts in one place the rules for funding and will combine the supporting audit evidence required to support them.

The document replaces the following documents that were issued for 2011/12:

We are pleased to announce that the OCN London qualification, OCNLR Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Health and Social and Early Years and Childcare Settings (QCF) is fully available to OCN London member centres.

The qualification aims to develop the learners knowledge and skills needed when working with food in health and social care and early years and childcare settings. It covers the importance of health and safety when handling food and drink, food safety requirements and maintaining hygiene and carries a credit value of two.

Simon Hughes MP, the Government’s Advocate for Access to Education discussed the importance of social mobility and inclusion within higher education at the annual OCN London Access to HE Conference which took place on Friday, 23 March in central London.

These nationally recognised qualifications aim to meet the needs of employers for qualifications that cultivate a positive attitude towards work and develop essential work skills and behaviours such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving. 

They are aimed at learners of all ages who want to improve their skills in communication, self-presentation and teamwork to increase their prospects of sustaining employment.

The unit structure allows providers to pick from a selection of optional units that suit a variety of learning programmes, e.g. using a work placement, enterprise project or community project to learn employability skills.

A recently established consortium, The Skills Collective, now offers a new service to smaller organisations that includes cost-effective access to OCN London Region accreditation.
