Qualifications and Accreditation

Since 1983, Open College Networks have been leading the way in credit-based accreditation and qualifications. We have traditionally offered our centres the flexibility they need, though our credit-based system, to develop learner-centred provision and recognise learner achievement in small steps. This approach has enabled thousands of learners to receive certificates for their achievements, often for the first time in their lives.

National Qualifications

OCN London Region offers QCA approved NOCN Qualifications which are eligible for LSC funding. These qualifications range from Entry level to Level Three and cover a diversity of curriculum and vocational areas. For full details about the qualifications available, go to:

Qualification reform – the emerging national framework

The National Qualifications Framework (NQF) sets out the levels against which a qualification can be recognised but until now there have been no agreed criteria for the titling or size of qualifications.

The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) is a new way of recognising skills and qualifications and will replace the NQF from September 2010. In the QCF all qualifications will be broken down into units and each unit will have a credit value. The qualifications will be written in a standardised way that will enable learners and employers to quickly understand the difficulty (level) and size (number of credits) of any qualifications or units achieved.

Accreditation of Access to HE Diplomas

Our Access to Higher Education Diploma courses are designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and skills needed to progress to a degree or diploma course in higher education. These courses enable mature students who do not have the necessary level 3 qualifications (such as ‘A’ levels) required to progress to Higher Education to acquire the Access to HE Diploma, which is equivalent in standard to these qualifications.

Accreditation of customised courses

Whether you are a learning provider or an employer or community organisation, OCN London Region can work with you to develop and accredit courses and qualifications specific to your needs. Courses can be built from a vast range of ready made units or we can work with you to develop new units.
