The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) replaced the National Qualifications Framework in September 2010. All qualifications in the QCF are broken down into units which each have a number of credits. Each qualification then has a set of rules for how many credits must be achieved and which units can or must be achieved to achieve the full qualification. As another way of looking at it, the units act as building blocks towards a full qualification and each unit is individually recognised and listed on a certificate.
The NOCN qualifications have operated in a similar way for over ten years and OCNs remain the experts in credit-based learning and qualifications. Our centres are familiar with the advantages the QCF will bring to learners and providers alike:
- Flexible approaches to achieving full qualifications
- Achievement in bite-sized chunks of learning
- Certification for individual units as well as for full qualifications
- Clarity and transparency for learners, providers and employers in what the credits are being awarded for
- Avoids duplication of learning and achievement
