Launch of New Qualification to Support Volunteering at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
OCNLR has been working with the London Development Agency, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG), SkillsActive and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) on the development of a Qualification to support potential volunteers at the Games in 2012.
With a brand name of Personal Best, the NOCN Level 1 Award in Preparation for Event Volunteering is a Qualification listed on the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
The Qualification aims to raise the profile of volunteering amongst those furthest from the labour market and to use volunteering at a public event as a means of improving the skills, knowledge and experience to create routes to employment. The Qualification will support the sustainability element of the bid for the London 2012 Games.
This 12 credit Qualification is comprised of 9 mandatory units:
- Becoming a Volunteer
- Volunteering and the Olympics
- Emergency and Basic Fire Awareness
- Public Safety Awareness
- Understanding Effective Customer Relations
- Understanding Equality and Diversity
- Introduction to Conflict Resolution in a Public Environment
- Developing Team and Interpersonal Skills
- Preparing for and Reflecting on a Volunteer Placement
The design of the Qualification is such that the combination of units will support learners into work and/or further learning through work experience and personal development.
Learners who achieve the full Level 1 Personal Best Qualification may be offered an interview as a Games Time Volunteer.
Note: The NOCN Entry Level Award in Public Event Volunteering is also available as a Qualification on the QCF and has been designed to support the same target groups. This Qualification comprises the same unit titles but learners will not automatically be eligible for an interview as a Games Time Volunteer.
