NOCN Internal Verifier Award (IVA)

Designed for those with limited experience of internal verification who wish to deepen their knowledge and develop their practice; and those without an internal verification qualification, especially who wish to achieve Approved Internal Verifier Status (AIVS) awarded by the National Open College Network (NOCN).

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Design and manage robust internal verification processes and activities
  • Effectively co-ordinate and develop staff delivering credit-based accreditation
  • Establish systems for meaningful and valid standardisation

  • Understanding units, credits and levels
  • Key principles of credit-based learning assessment
  • The role of the Internal Verifier
  • Equality and diversity in internal verification
  • Preparing for QR/EV visits

  • Evidence collection and recording documentation
  • Introduction to AIVS

Additional information

  • A nationally accredited course of 9 credits at Level 3 which covers two units:
    • Understanding Internal Verification (6 credits at Level 3) assessed and evidenced through four tasks
    • Internal Verification in Practice (3 credits at Level 3) assessed and evidenced by two tasks
  • 4 day course PLUS equivalent time at home or work to produce a portfolio of evidence (for those wishing to achieve the award)
  • Guidance and support from tutor on evidence requirements
  • Held quarterly
